Now
where did I put my emergency kit?
| |
Well, daylight saving
time is fast approaching, and I would
like to share with you a few preparedness
tips that you can apply as you change
your clocks. |
| |
|
| |
First, now is a great time to change
the batteries not only in your smoke
alarms, but in your battery operated
clocks as well. Even though most clocks
today are electric, there are battery
back ups in some of them. |
| |
|
| |
Secondly,
remember to check your preparedness
kit to make sure your
emergency stockpile isn’t missing
any items and that the food hasn’t
expired. The American Public Health
Association (APHA’s) Get
Ready: Set Your Clocks, Check Your
Stocks campaign is reminding people to refresh
their emergency supplies before a disaster
occurs. |
| |
|
| |
For
FREE materials and other information
from APHA’s Get Ready campaign,
go to http://www.getreadyforflu.org/clocksstocks/.
Materials on this site are in both
English and Spanish and include a stockpile
checklist, grocery list, stockpiling
facts, tips for healthy stockpiling,
stockpiling recipes and even a stockpiling
fact sheet for your pets! There are
even games and other materials aimed
at kids! High school teachers can also
find an emergency preparedness project
kit for their class. |
| |
|
| |
If
you have never prepared a kit, now
would be a good time to begin with
these easy-to-follow resources at your
fingertips. Once you check out this
website, I’m sure you will see
how easy it is to gather the items
you will need for your kit. Oh, and
before you get too caught up in preparing
your kit….don’t
forget to change your clocks March
11th! |

If
you are a frequent traveler, you are probably
pretty good at not only packing only the
necessities for your trip, but probably place
them in a certain order in your bag as to
fit the most that you can.
If so, you are well on your way to getting the most efficient stockpile
kit put together. However, once you have your stockpile /kit packed,
where do you store it? Is it in the closet behind those shoes that
you wear the least? Is it in the garage where it could easily be
shoved to the back by well-meaning family members doing a "spring
cleaning"? Remember that you may not only need to shelter in
place and want easy location of your stockpile, but you may need
to leave your home and you may not have time do "dig" for
it as if on a treasure hunt. |

Easy Access to Your Supply Kit and Emergency
Informaiton
|
|
| |
|
Your
supply kit/kits should be in an easy-to-grab
place such as
the front of the pantry or closet or maybe in the broom closet. Where
ever you place your stockpile, make sure it is easily seen and reachable
and most importantly, known to all family members.
